Welcome to Patch Cottage Designs

I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to have been awarded Runner-Up position in my category of this year’s Hand & Lock – the Prize competition. It was beyond my expectations to have even been selected as one of the six Finalists, but to then come second exceeded my wildest dreams.

This success has done so much for my confidence: to have this international recognition just spurs me on for further aims. I have met and chatted with so many knowledgeable, enthusiastic like-minded embroiderers and have gathered an enormous amount of inspiration from them all.

If you have been a regular follower of my website you will know that I specialise in contemporary fabric art embroidery where I embody my love of imaginative dramatic designs and styles, using rich colourful fabrics, interwoven with embroidery, beads and a variety of other accessories to produce eye-catching creations that would lighten up any aspect of your homes.

I also have a passion for recycling, leading me to include in my creations many accessories from items destined to be thrown out.. Then I include sparkling sequins, glitter and the like producing a kaleidoscope of colour which twinkle and sparkle from whichever perspective my work is viewed. You can see this effect on my YouTube videos.

I have developed my “Stellar Collection” which I feel is synonymous with a particular exciting style of my embroidery relating to the beauty and magic of the Universe.  I completed my first creation “Nova” and it was while working on my second one: “Andromeda” that I came across the Hand & Lock – the Prize competition and for eighteen months I’ve been concentrating on my entry.  The competition’s aim is to highlight the intricacies and particular craftsmanship and talent that goes into producing beautiful creations in a wide range of mediums with each year promoting a theme. This year the emphasis was on ‘Fool the Senses’.

This is the most prestigious annual embroidery competition in the World. This year there were over 500 worldwide entries for the four categories. I entered the Open Textile Art Category and was nominated one of the six finalists. All twenty four finalists attended the Exhibition and Prize Giving held over two days at the Bishopsgate Institute, London. There were many visitors who each were able to vote for their favourite in each category. The results of this were then added to those of the eminent judges who attended the last evening.

I have been so fortunate to have had this opportunity. I now am putting all I have learnt from this experience into the next creation in my “Stellar Collection” and have ideas for certain spin-offs from my work as well…...keep watching this space!!
